Consumables
Everyday items, supplies and low-cost assistive products.
What this category covers
Consumables are everyday items that help with daily life - continence aids, low-cost assistive technology, nutritional supplements and similar. The list of eligible items is set by the NDIA and is reviewed periodically.
Consumables purchases usually don't need a quote or plan review - you buy through the participant's budget like any retail purchase. Provider matching for Consumables is less common than for service categories.
Plan management
Funded under Core Supports - Consumables. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can buy from any retailer who supplies NDIS-compatible products.
Typical services
- Continence aids
- Low-cost assistive technology under $1,500
- Specialised nutrition (if clinically recommended)

▸What counts as "low cost" assistive technology?
Under $1,500 per item, off-the-shelf, low risk to the user. Anything above that or with clinical risk needs an Assistive Technology assessment.
